Active wear
This topic has come up a few times—how to bring seasonal colour inspiration into activewear.
I always think it’s bonkers when I see people working out in black. First, if it’s a warm day, it’s only going to make you hotter. Second, if you’re doing something high-energy, why not embrace some colour? Activewear is one of the easiest places to have fun with colour because it’s not about blending in—it’s about feeling good and moving comfortably. Also lets face it when we are working out (especially if maybe you aren’t in the mood to work out) having some colour to boost your energy and enthusiasm is never going to be a bad thing.
Choosing Colours for Activewear
When it comes to activewear, I wouldn’t worry too much about traditional body shape rules—most pieces are fitted anyway, and comfort is key.
That said, there are a few things you can keep in mind:
Neckline – Stick with the neckline you’d normally wear in your everyday clothes to keep everything feeling natural and flattering.
Layers – If you prefer a bit more coverage or feel self-conscious in tighter fits, layering up with looser pieces—like an oversized tee or lightweight hoodie—can help.
Colour Depth & Balance – As a triangle, I personally prefer darker bottoms with a lighter top to help balance my proportions, but this is just a personal choice.
And don’t forget about patterns—they’re an easy way to add some fun to your activewear! Many brands tend to keep tops quite plain while using prints on leggings, so if you love a bold pattern, your leggings are the perfect place to make a statement.
Other Tips for Activewear That Works for You
✔ Consider Fabric & Breathability – If you’re working out outdoors or in warmer weather, moisture-wicking fabrics are your best friend. Look for materials like polyester blends and avoid anything that holds onto sweat.
✔ Mix & Match Your Colours – If you want a small capsule of activewear, try choosing one or two bright and fun pieces and some more neutral colours. This way, you can swap out pieces without worrying about clashing colours.
✔ Think About Layers – A well-fitted zip-up or lightweight sweatshirt in a colour that suits you can make a big difference when you’re warming up or cooling down.
✔ Add Fun Accessories – If you’re not quite ready for bold leggings, try a pop of colour in your sports bra, trainers, or even a patterned headband!
Most activewear brands now offer matching sets or leggings in a variety of colours within the same range. So if you find a pair you love, it’s worth having a little browse online to see if there are coordinating pieces in your best colours. And if you’re unsure about a shade, just ask—I’m happy to help!
