Footwear for cold weather

Yes, boots rule autumn/winter (and we covered those in last week’s Joy Drop)…

But they’re not the only option when the temperature drops. This season, there are some brilliant non-boot styles worth keeping on your radar.

Of course, some of these will only work for milder or drier days, but it’s always worth thinking about footwear first when you’re building your outfit for the day.

And a little note, quite a few of these styles are bridging more than one trend this season.

Soft loafers

Flexible, glove-like loafers made from soft leather or suede are this season’s comfy-yet-polished heroes. They’re perfect for everyday wear, I’ve spotted loads of people wearing them lately (and the influencers are definitely on board too), but these are definitely best for drier days!

Derbies & Brogues
A smarter lace-up that instantly adds polish. They look great with trousers, jeans, or even dresses, I actually love these as an option when you want to balance something feminine with a more structured shoe.

Retro Trainers 👟
Retro trainers have been around for a while, but this season there’s a real shift towards sleeker, slim-line styles. Think low-profile silhouettes in soft leather or suede, more polished than sporty, and perfect for pairing with smarter outfits.

These trainers all come in some really fun colours, if you are looking for a colour for your season ask in the comments in Facebook and i’ll hunt something down!

Ballet Flats (with a twist) - Not the dainty versions we used to wear, his season’s ballet flats have toughened up. Think square toes, bold straps, textured finishes, and chunkier soles that make them feel modern and grown-up rather than girlish.

Animal Prints - Unusual textures and patterns - think cowhide, snake print, are showing up on loafers and flats, an easy way to add a pop without committing to a whole outfit.

These are all styles that are trending right now. And while we don’t just buy based on trends, if you’re shopping for new footwear (and many of these work for both smart and everyday wear), they’re a great place to start.
