Small things that might be ruining your outift.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, because sometimes I honestly think it’s really small things that are impacting how our outfits look. So today I wanted to talk about something deeply unglamorous… but totally outfit-altering:

Creases. Crumples. The “I’d wear this… if I could be bothered to iron it” pile.

You know I hate being judgy, and if you know me well, you’ll also know I am terrible for this myself (I hate ironing) But honestly? I can’t tell you how many great outfits I see out and about that would instantly look more put-together with one tiny change: a quick steam or iron.

It’s not that the clothes are wrong. It’s that they look a bit… slept in.
And that one detail can throw off the whole look.

Honestly, I see this all the time. It’s easy to think no one will notice, but there’s nothing that makes an outfit look less considered, less intentional, than loads of creases. And I totally get it: you’re rushing around in the morning, you pull something out to wear, and then… it’s just too wrinkled. You have two options just throw it on and hope no one notices or you put it back in the wardrobe and your lovely outfit doesn’t even get worn (which is equally annoying)

And let me be very frank here: I hate ironing.

I grew up watching my mum iron every Sunday while we all watched a film, and the thought of doing that now brings shivers down my spine.

But… I do know the difference it makes. Not just to how my outfit looks, but to how I feel wearing it.

A few easy tweaks that help:💡 A few easy tweaks that make a big difference:

Hate ironing? Same.
Get yourself a handheld steamer, I don’t have one, but I am desperate to get one - if anyone has any recommendations I’d love to hear them. No awkward board, no setting up, just hang the thing on a hook or wardrobe door and go. It takes about 90 seconds to warm up and can transform a wrinkled blouse in under a minute. If ironing feels like a chore, a good steamer will feel like a quick magic trick.

Only keep clothes in your wardrobe that are actually ready to wear.
You know the ones I mean the “I love it, but it needs ironing” pieces that you pull out, sigh at, and shove back in every morning. Those clothes either need dealing with now, or they need to go. Otherwise, they just add to the clutter and the overwhelm. Your wardrobe should make getting dressed easier, not guiltier.

Hang things up straight after washing (or wearing).
Not on The Chair. Not in a pile on the floor. Not draped over a door until you “deal with it later.”
(Honestly, I’m preaching to myself here as much as anyone.)
Even just smoothing something out with your hands and hanging it up properly can prevent half the creases that cause faff later.

Buy fabrics that don’t need ironing in the first place.
If you know, deep down that you’re never going to steam a linen shirt or faff with structured cotton… don’t bring it home. There are so many amazing pieces now made from soft, drapey fabrics that hold their shape straight from the wash. Style should fit your life, not give you another job to do.

Sometimes the only reason we don’t wear something we love is because it’s a bit wrinkled. That blouse you’ve been avoiding? It might be your new favourite, if it just got a steam.

Small effort = big impact.

If your outfit looks a bit messy and you can’t figure out why, start here.
Just five minutes of steaming might be all it takes to go from meh to nailed it — no shopping required.
