Apologies everyone — today's JOYDROP is a little summer season focused! 🌞 But I think the lesson is actually useful for everyone to keep in mind.
One of the best ways to ‘win’ at this whole intentional shopping game is to try and break away from trends, cycles, and the pressure to always buy for now.
What do I mean?
Shops and trends run on a very fast cycle. Last year, chunky sandals and ballet flats were everywhere. This year? Ballet flats have gone all mesh, and sandals are getting thinner and strappier. Total coincidence? Nope. It’s planned — fashion shifts fast to make what you bought last year feel outdated... so you’ll want to buy again. Classic consumerism at its finest! :(
The same thing happens with colours.
There is always one or two colours that the shops seem to be full of.
And OMG — you cannot miss the yellow explosion happening in shops right now. A very specific soft buttery yellow, which i’m sure has got all the summers in the group 🩷
Literally, some stores have whole sections labelled "butter yellow”.
Above is the Zara home page - where ‘Butter Yellow’ has its own category on the home page.
But last year? Finding a soft summer yellow was like finding a needle in a haystack. I remember lots of you chatting in the group about hunting for it — and a few people snapping up those rare M&S jeans when they found the right shade!
So while yellow is finally everywhere, I thought I’d do a quick round-up of what's available.
Because if you were wishing for it last year, now’s the time to buy smart — thinking not just about now, but also later in the year, building that intentional wardrobe you love all year round.
Now, obviously, buying ahead isn’t always practical (we’re not made of money 💸). But it’s worth a little reflection:
Were you hunting for a yellow coat, a yellow jumper last winter and couldn’t find one?
Would you wear it again if you found it now?
Would an accessory in this colour be something you could use all year round.
If the answer’s yes — now’s the time to maybe think about grabbing something.
It may stick around for the year, but you never know!
(And let’s all cross our fingers that spring purple is next on the fashion radar! ;)
