Winter dresses
I love to wear a dress in winter. It’s easy to think dresses are just for summer, but layer up properly and a colourful dress is just the ticket on a dark day. I’ve scoured the shops to find my favourites for each colour season!
For me, the key to a winter-appropriate dress is the fabric. Look for thicker materials like cord, knit, velvet, wool blends, or heavier cotton, so you stay warm without sacrificing style. Add tights (like those fab fleece lined ones that Ttegan bought this week - see her great post here) , boots, and a bright coat or scarf, and you’ve got an instant mood lift, no matter the weather.
Spring
It’s not easy to find these brighter, warmer colours at this time of year, but I’ve tracked down some beautiful pieces. Spring wardrobes need that light, fresh energy, so I’ve focused on cheerful tones that lift even the greyest winter day. A few of these are Spring/Autumn-leaning, but they can easily be pulled into a Spring palette with lighter, brighter accessories and fresh pairings.
Summer
Just like Spring, it’s harder to find colours that suit the Summer season at this time of year. I’ve focused on hunting out soft, snuggly knits and lighter tones that still feel cosy, rather than the deeper or more muted shades you often see in winter. These pieces bring that gentle, calm Summer palette into colder days, cool, elegant, and so gorgeous!
Autumn
There are Autumn-suitable dresses everywhere on the high street at the moment, but so many lean into the darker end of the palette. I challenged myself to find some of the brighter Autumn tones instead — those golden, russet, and leafy shades that feel rich but still joyful. Because as we all know, wearing your joyful colours makes all the difference.
Winter
You can lean into all the rich jewel tones, crisp contrasts, and cool brights that help you feel confident even on the coldest days. I looked for pieces that bring that striking Winter clarity, strong, bold, and full of energy.
Quite a lot of these dresses also seem to be discounted, this post has not been good for my bank balance!
