Does having a tan affect your colour season?
Jane asked... How does tanning affect colour choices? I go from very pale to quite a deep tan. Does it make any difference?
(Sorry, I couldn't resist the photo)
No, your colour season stays the same whether you’re pale or tanned. But the colours you wear (and how you feel in them) from your palette may shift throughout the year.
In the winter, when your skin is paler and less bright, you’ll often find that your very best colours from your palette feel most flattering. You may have already noticed that some colours feel “just right” while others are less exciting that’s normal.
In summer, when you’re tanned, your skin has more glow, and the tan tends to smooth out imperfections. This makes it easier to wear a wider range of colours from your palette even those that might feel a bit hit-and-miss in the winter months. Many people also naturally feel more comfortable in brighter colours during the warmer months.
A quick note on fake tan: almost all fake tans will warm up your skin tone (unlike a natural tan), so be mindful of that when choosing colours.
The best approach? Keep experimenting. Take photos of yourself in different colours year-round, and you’ll quickly see which ones shine when you’re paler and which ones you can embrace when you’re tanned.
