Blouses
I’ve been thinking about what I want to add to my own spring wardrobe this year. Putting together The Spring Style Guide has been such a helpful way to reflect on what I actually want to be wearing over the next few months—and whether there’s anything I need to add.
Even just creating this guide has helped me get clearer on my own wardrobe needs - I can’t wait to share it with you all.
One thing that kept popping up—and that I’ve also seen loads of in the shops (thanks, boho trend!)—is pretty blouses. I love a good blouse as a wardrobe addition. They’re so versatile. Often made with interesting textures or subtle prints, they instantly add a bit of personality to an outfit. They’re easy to dress up or down, depending on what you pair them with, and they layer beautifully—think blouse under dungarees or peeking out from under a cardigan.
For some people, blouses can feel a bit too girly—but honestly, that’s what I love about them. You can lean into that soft, romantic feel, or balance it out with tougher or more relaxed pieces to make it feel cooler and more “you.” A floaty blouse with jeans and chunky sandals? Yes please - they are a really great item to play around with in your wardrobe.
They can also feel a bit—dare I say it—mumsy or old-fashioned. (Some of the pictures below might give you that impression at first glance.) But honestly? It all comes down to the styling. The right shape, colours, and outfit pairings can totally transform the vibe—and for me, the chance to inject some pattern or texture into an outfit is what makes blouses so fun.
💡 If you're an inverted triangle—or simply prefer to draw attention away from your top half—opt for a blouse in a neutral tone or a simple, streamlined shape. Steer clear of bold patterns or heavy details around the shoulders, and let your accessories or bottoms do the talking instead.
