Taking clothes with you when you go shopping?
When I went shopping with the lovely Kim the other day, she said one of the things she was looking for was a top to go with a pair of trousers she was struggling to style.
And I just said, “Oh… you should have brought them with you.”
And it made me realise I’ve probably never actually shared this very simple shopping tip with you all.
But you can take clothes with you to the shops when you are shopping!
If you’ve got something at home that you love, but don’t feel confident styling, instead of trying to imagine how things will look with it while you’re walking around the shops… just take it with you.
I don’t know why it feels a bit weird to do that (it sounds so obvious when you say it out loud), but it really isn’t.
And it makes the whole shopping experience so much easier.
You’re not having to guess what will look good, or hoping it’ll work when you get home. You can try it all on together and know straight away if it works.
It’s also a really good way of making your wardrobe work harder for you. Those pieces that have been sitting there because you’re not quite sure how to wear them? Take them into the shops and build outfits around them. If you can’t find something to wear with them, maybe they are just too hard to style and aren’t a good fit.
You can do the same with pieces you wear all the time. If you live in the same pair of jeans and you’re looking for a new top… take the jeans with you. You’ll instantly see what actually works.
Same with things like shoes and dresses. If you’re trying to find shoes for a particular dress, take the dress and try everything on together.
It turns shopping from a bit hit-and-miss… into something much more intentional.
