Spring shoe ideas

For the first time in ages this week, I got dressed and looked at my feet and thought… oh I want to get some ankle out. It feels like my boots can be cleaned and stored away now for autumn, and it’s time to embrace lovely spring shoes and trainers.

So I thought I would firstly do a quick run through of some of the ones I have seen in the shops, and secondly have a quick talk about what shoes are ‘trending’ this season (if you are interested in that sort of thing.)

You have heard me talk about this before, but I intentionally build my wardrobe. Which basically means each season I add a new layer to it. Shoes are a great example, last year I bought a pair of red colourful pumps for spring, and the year before that a pair of black and white loafers. This year I’ve been looking at adding a more neutral and lighter pair to my wardrobe, and I quite like the idea of some of the softer, more minimal styles that are around at the moment.

Because that really is what’s coming through this season, everything feels a bit lighter, a bit easier, and a bit less “heavy” than what we’ve been wearing over winter (pretty standard for spring time.)

So if you are someone who likes to keep an eye on trends (or just wants a bit of inspiration), these are the styles you’ll be seeing around at the moment:

  • Mesh & sheer flats – probably the biggest trend this spring, light, breathable and slightly see-through. Obviously not the most practical depending on what the weather is doing.

  • Updated ballet flats – think Mary Janes, square toes and more styled versions rather than the really basic ones

  • Backless loafers & mules – easy to throw on but still feel quite put together

  • Modern clogs – a quieter comeback, often in suede or softer finishes rather than anything too heavy

and here are some of my fave styles I have spotted in the shops:
