Daily photos
You’ll hear me talk a lot about outfit photos in Joyfully Dressed, and that’s because, personally, it’s been the number one thing that’s transformed how easy it is for me to get dressed.
For me, outfit photos aren’t about documenting outfits or keeping a streak.
They’re about noticing myself.
And more specifically, noticing when I’ve stopped noticing.
The daily photos I take help me remember that I don’t want to feel the way I used to. That I deserve to feel good in myself every single day. And just how much difference one joyful outfit can make.
Most of my photos aren’t even “finished” no shoes, no coat, bad lighting. None of that matters, because these photos are just for you.
Take the photo even if you don’t love your outfit.
Take the photo even if you aren’t going anywhere special.
Take the photo even if you don’t plan to look at it again any time soon.
Because one thing I’ve noticed, again and again, is that people often stop taking outfit photos right before they lose momentum with their style. And usually, that’s not a coincidence.
Once you have that photo album in your phone, it starts doing so much of the work for you.
You can see more clearly what you like, and what you don’t.
I can often tell far more from a photo than I can in the moment. If something feels “off” but I can’t work out why, looking back at a photo gives me the space to figure it out. Maybe the hem length isn’t quite right. Maybe the outfit needs more contrast. Maybe it’s just missing something visually.
Here are a few simple questions to ask when you look back at your photos:
Did I feel good in this outfit?
Did it align with my style words?
If yes, what about it worked?
If not, what could I tweak to make it work?
Does it work with my colour season?
Is the level of contrast right for me?
Over time, you’ll start to see your style emerging, because you’re paying attention.
Your album also becomes your easiest source of inspiration. If you can’t think what to wear, scroll back to an outfit you loved. Wear it again exactly as it was, or tweak it slightly to suit the day you’re having.
And finally, it helps you shop better.
Before I buy something new, I’ll often flick through my album and ask: does this look like it will slot easily into the wardrobe I already have?
It’s such a simple habit to make shopping feel simpler, calmer, and much more intentional, which is what JD is all about.
