Hats

I'm terrible with hats. They make such a difference when the sun is beating down, but they're always an afterthought for me. I usually end up borrowing my husband's instead!

This year I promised myself I'd finally invest in two hats: a practical one for days spent running around after the kids, and a nicer one for when I want to feel a bit more put together.

One thing worth mentioning is that hats aren't always the easiest accessory to buy for your colour season. The colour options can be pretty limited, so don't worry too much about finding the "perfect" seasonal match. Instead, aim for something that works with the overall feel of your outfit. A natural straw hat, for example, looks great on so many people because it feels relaxed and summery, even if it isn't your absolute best colour.

I have spent time looking online for hats that work for each season, but even more than usual I would treat this as a guide rather than hard and fast rules.

If you have a big hat my friend always swears by using these clips when she travels abraad, so that the hat doesnt end up squashed.
