Members hub updates
This week I’ve spent quite a lot of time behind the scenes tweaking, tidying and improving both the Members Hub and the Curated Wardrobe.
I can be a bit of an “anything you can do, I can probably work out how to do myself” person, so once I spot something that could work a little better, I do tend to disappear down a rabbit hole.
Anyway, it has resulted in a few updates that I think will make everything feel easier to use and, most importantly, help us keep the Curated Wardrobe even more useful and up to date. So I thought I would use todays Joy drop to tell you about them.
The Members Hub has had a glow up
The hub should now feel a little neater and easier to navigate.
I’ve added back buttons in more places, so you shouldn’t find yourself clicking into something and then wondering how to get back out again. When you’re inside the hub you can get back to it, by just clicking on either the header or the footer.
The latest seasonal guide is also now stored directly inside the hub, so if you need to find it again, it should be much easier to get to.
But the biggest changes are over in the...
Curated Wardrobe
Kate and I are always working on the Curated Wardrobe behind the scenes, adding things, checking links, removing sold-out pieces and keeping an eye on what is actually useful to have in there.
The difference now is that I’ve found a few ways of making that whole process much quicker and easier for us, which means we should be able to keep everything feeling even fresher.
You can now view items by category
I love seeing the whole Curated Wardrobe laid out together in all its seasonal glory, but I know that once there are hundreds of pieces in there, it can get a little overwhelming.
Sometimes you don’t want to look at everything. You just want shoes, or coats and jackets, or to look at all the pretty dresses.
So now you can do that, and you can filter the Curated Wardrobe by category.
Click the category you want and it will automatically show you just those pieces. The categories are deliberately quite broad so it doesn’t become overcomplicated, and whenever you want to go back to seeing everything, just click All.
Sale items are now much easier to spot
We’ve always kept some really good pieces in the Curated Wardrobe even when they move out of season, especially because lots of you have told us that you like being able to go back and shop them once they hit the sale.
The problem up to now is that there hasn’t been an easy way for us to show you when one of those pieces has actually been reduced. Unless you clicked through to the retailer, you might not realise it had gone into the sale at all.
Now, if an item is reduced, you’ll see a little ON SALE marker on the image, plus the current sale price and what it was originally.
So hopefully the Curated Wardrobe will now be even more useful for spotting those out-of-season bargains before they disappear.
We’re also toying with the idea of adding an Out of Season category, where we can keep things like summer dresses, sandals or lighter jackets that no longer really belong in the main seasonal wardrobe, but are still available, and potentially heavily reduced.
That way, if you do fancy shopping ahead or grabbing a bargain for next year, you’ll have somewhere really easy to find them.
Let me know if you think you’d actually use that, if enough of you would find it useful, we’ll add it in.
Out-of-stock items should now disappear more quickly
Keeping the Curated Wardrobe up to date has always been one of the biggest ongoing jobs behind the scenes.
Kate and I already regularly check links, remove sold-out pieces and update things as stock changes. The problem is that when you’re checking hundreds of individual items manually repeatedly, it takes a LOT of time.
We’ve now created a much quicker way of working through those checks, which should mean we can spot out-of-stock pieces sooner and keep the wardrobe feeling much more current.
It also helps us properly see where the gaps are. There’s no point us thinking, “Great, we’ve got ten jumpers in there,” if half of them have actually sold out.
More regular updates
Because the stock checks are now much quicker for us to work through, we should also be able to refresh the Curated Wardrobe more regularly.
It still isn’t completely automatic, sadly I haven’t yet managed to persuade every shop on the internet to speak directly to my website, so there will always be a little lag between something changing on a retailer’s site and us updating it.
Our aim is to give everything a proper check each week, with extra attention during busy sale periods.
Just to manage expectations though, if Next launches its Boxing Day sale overnight, we won’t be able to instantly switch everything over so it shows as being on sale.
But overall, you should find that the Curated Wardrobe feels easier to browse, easier to compare and more consistently up to date.
I hope all the changes feel like an improvement.
Have a play with it and let us know what you think. And if you spot anything that looks odd or doesn’t work quite as it should, please tell us. We’ve tested and retested everything, but once you’ve stared at the same page for long enough, it becomes remarkably easy to stop seeing what’s right in front of you!
