You might’ve seen Alice’s fab post in the group recently about trying to train the Vinted algorithm, and it got me thinking. So many of us are using Vinted to build our seasonal wardrobes, but the recommendations can feel a bit... random, right?
So, is it actually possible to teach Vinted what you like?
Alice gave it a proper go. She spent weeks liking and searching for clothes in her colour season (think rich berries, sea greens, soft plums). At first, it worked! She noticed Vinted showing more items in the right colours, even shoes and accessories she hadn’t searched for. Which sounds really incredible.
But alas, a few weeks later, when she wasn’t using the app as much, things went back to business as usual. Random colours popped up again. So the effect of all that “training” was short-lived.
Her verdict? Training the Vinted algorithm might help in the short term if you’re actively searching for something. But for long-term results? Don’t rely on it.
So if you can’t train the Vinted algorithm to show you clothes that are in your season are there some other strategies to get better results.
✨ Search creatively – Use as many colour words as possible. Burgundy, mulberry, plum, berry. They’ll all bring up different results.
💡 Search for qualities, not items – Try “draped,” “structured,” or “flowy” instead of specific item names. You'll often find hidden gems.
👀 Save your favourites – Even if an item’s sold, keeping it in your favourites might help you see similar pieces again (this one’s not confirmed, but worth a try!).
🔍 Try “Similar Item Surfing” – Click through suggested items under something you love. It can lead you to pieces you wouldn’t have found otherwise.
🖼️ Reverse image search – If you’re unsure about a colour in the photo, pop it into a reverse image search to check if it’s been edited or filtered.
Massive thanks to Alice for sharing her brain with us 🫶
