Statement Collar + Dungarees + Knit

Whenever I start putting together an outfit formula, I always do a bit of scrolling for inspiration — and this week I didn’t have to look far. The group was full of statement collars, and I was ready to pay attention.

Statement collars have been in style radar since 2020, when Ganni brought them back into the spotlight. They add instant personality to simple outfits and have a girly feel, which you can either lean into or balance out depending on your mood.

This week’s outfit formula pairs a statement-collar blouse with dungarees and a knit, a mix that feels playful yet grounded. The collar adds detail and interest, catching the eye without needing bold prints, while the dungarees toughen up the look just enough to stop it feeling too sweet. Layering a knit over the top softens everything and brings that cosy, textured finish that works so well for autumn and winter.

If you want to lean into the feminine side, go for a blouse with embroidery or lace and pair it with a soft pastel knit. If you prefer a more laid-back version, try darker denim dungarees and a chunkier knit, the weight of the textures will balance the delicacy of the collar perfectly.

Finish the look with ankle boots or trainers, a crossbody bag, and simple earrings to keep it feeling intentional but easy.

And if you’re layering for warmth, don’t worry about hiding the collar, it always adds a touch of charm peeking out from under a coat or jacket.

Seasonal alternatives:

Not a Winter season? No problem. You can still recreate this look using items in your own palette.

For colour pairings, Summers and Winters will suit cool, crisp combinations, think lilac or periwinkle collars with navy dungarees and a grey or berry knit. Springs and Autumns can opt for warmer, playful tones, ivory or embroidered collars, stick with denim or pair with rust or olive dungarees, if wearing coloured dungarees add a soft oat or coral knit.

Hourglass:
Keep your cardigan open to highlight your natural waist through the fitted dungarees.

Triangle:
The statement collar already draws the eye upward, so balance your proportions with darker, streamlined denim and a turned-up hem to show the ankle.

Circle:
Leave the cardigan open to create long vertical lines. Try a blouse with less shoulder volume or unbutton the top to open the neckline.

Rectangle:
Let the layered textures add softness and shape. You can also button the cardigan at the waist or add a belt bag to suggest curves.

Inverted Triangle:
This outfit naturally adds volume to the top half (but we know breaking the rules is worth it). To balance things out, add visual weight lower down turn up the hems, choose a chunkier trainer, and keep the top half in softer or muted tones.
