Blush colours
There was a post in the group this week asking for help with makeup, and it couldn't have been better timed because I'd already planned today's Joy Drop on blush!
I talk a lot about finding your best lipstick shades, but your colour season doesn't just influence the clothes you wear or the lipstick you choose. It can make a real difference to the rest of your makeup too, and blush is one of the products that often has the biggest impact.
For many of us, we've been wearing the same blush for years simply because it's what we've always bought. We don't really think about whether it's actually the most flattering shade for us. Honestly, it can make a huge difference—especially if you're cool-toned but wearing a warm peachy blush (or vice versa). The right shade should make you look naturally healthy and fresh, rather than looking like you've added colour to your cheeks.
Some brands are really helpful and tell you whether a shade is warm or cool, but not all do. If they don't, the name of the shade or description can often give you a clue:
Spring (Warm): Look for words like: Peach, Apricot, Coral, Nectar, Melon, Sunrise, Blossom
Summer (Cool) Look for: Rose, Petal, Dusty Rose, Pink, Mauve, Soft Berry, Ballet
Autumn (Warm) Look for: Terracotta, Cinnamon, Spice, Bronze, Burnt Peach, Amber, Copper
Winter (Cool) Look for: Berry, Raspberry, Plum, Fuchsia, Cool Rose, Cherry, Magenta
Here are a few blushes for each season that I would recommend:
🌸 Spring: Fresh peach, apricot and warm coral.
🌹 Summer: Soft rose, cool pink and dusty pink.
🍂 Autumn: Warm peach, terracotta and cinnamon tones.
❄️ Winter: Cool rose, berry and blue-based pinks.
When you pick a blush you want to think does it reflect the same warmth or coolness that suits me in my clothing?
The effect you want it that the best blush doesn't stand out on your face, it simply makes you look fresher, healthier and more awake. That's what you're aiming for.
