Cargo Trousers - Are we going there?

Every now and then I see a trend start to raise its head and it gives me a little whiff of nostalgia.
And right now? Cargo trousers are back.
It’s probably not hugely surprising. Over the last few years our jeans and trousers have gradually got looser, wider and more relaxed, so a return to cargo trousers was probably always on the cards.
But the timing also makes perfect sense. The weather has started to cool, we’re getting that first little hint of autumn in the air, and suddenly khaki cargo trousers feel very autumnal again.
But they are quite different from the 90s version. We’re seeing wider legs, softer fabrics, more relaxed shapes and less of that very literal, military-inspired look. They can actually look surprisingly polished.

You can see that the cargo trousers are much simpler too. Really, they’re just the wider-legged trousers we’ve all been wearing, with a few extra pockets to add a bit of interest.
And that makes them much easier to wear than you might initially think.
You can still wear them now, while it’s not too cold, with sandals. Then later in the season, swap the sandals for pumps or trainers, and eventually boots when the weather really turns.
They’re not a completely new shape to get your head around, they’re really just a slightly more interesting version of the wide-leg trousers you might already have in your wardrobe.
