Damson Madder

Today's Joy Drop is all about a brand I have become a big fan of: Damson Madder.
In fact, this week I made a little order from their sale (because obviously I had to do some research for you all 😉), and I was really impressed with the pieces that arrived.
If you haven't come across them before, Damson Madder is a British brand known for colourful, playful, trend-led pieces with a slightly vintage feel. They have a really distinctive look, lots of interesting prints, beautiful textures, oversized shapes and details that make a piece feel a bit more special.
If you follow a lot of fashion influencers, you have probably seen them popping up a lot recently. They are definitely having a bit of a “cool girl” moment, and I see their pieces all over Instagram.
But what I love about them is that underneath the trendiness, they are creating clothes with a lot of personality. They aren’t afraid to play with shape, colour and texture, basically their clothes feel very JOYful.
One thing I love about them is that they aren't afraid to exaggerate. Think oversized collars, big sleeves, chunky knits, interesting silhouettes and statement details. Their clothes often have that "cool girl" feel, the kind of piece that makes a simple outfit feel much more styled. They often exaggerate a trend that is already on everyone’s radar.
I was also super impressed by the quality. Sometimes with more trend-led brands, you can love the idea of something online but feel disappointed when it arrives. That wasn't my experience with Damson Madder. The fabrics felt lovely, the details were well thought through and the pieces felt like they would earn their place in my wardrobe.
My only criticism was that some of the pieces were quite heavy, but actually that was often because there was just so much fabric and detail in them!
I think they are particularly brilliant if you are someone who wants to add a bit more personality to your wardrobe. If you feel like your clothes have become a bit safe or practical, a piece from Damson Madder can instantly bring back some fun.
A few things to know:
They are not the cheapest brand, so I would think of them as investment pieces rather than a huge wardrobe overhaul. My advice? Keep an eye on the sale (which is exactly what I did!).
As I mentioned earlier a lot of their pieces are quite fashion-forward, so they work best when you choose the things that feel like you rather than simply buying because they are trendy.
Their shapes can be quite oversized, so check the sizing carefully especially if you prefer a more fitted silhouette.
They are becoming a really popular brand, so depending on how you feel about seeing other people wearing the same thing, that might be something to consider. I actually wanted one of their raincoats last year, but then spotted two people wearing the exact same one in the school playground and it put me off! (Although equally, if you love something, someone else owning it shouldn’t stop you, I wouldn’t be bothered about a top or dress, just the coat for some reason!)
From a colour perspective, there is usually something for everyone. They do lots of beautiful brights, softer shades, earthy tones and classic contrasts, so the trick is to look past the trend and find the colours and shapes that work for your own season and style.
