I don't know about you, but Topshop will always have a place in my millennial heart.
Did you used to shop from there and if you do, do you still own anything from there? I think a lot of people have held onto the collab pieces they had with celebs.
I'm originally from London, and as soon as we were old enough to spend an afternoon in the West End, a trip to the iconic Oxford Street Topshop was just what you did. My friendship group weren't even huge shoppers, but we'd happily spend hours wandering around, trying things on and dreaming about what we'd buy if we had unlimited money. It was just how we spent our weekends.
So when Topshop disappeared around the pandemic, it genuinely felt like the end of an era. And then when the Oxford Street store closed its doors for good, it was surprisingly sad. I think for a lot of us, it wasn't just a shop, it held so many memories.
But recently, Topshop has made a bit of a comeback. It started with the brand being stocked on ASOS, then there was a pop-up in Liberty, and now it's back with its own website too.
But I guess the big question is.. is Topshop still worth shopping now we're in our 40s?
Personally, I think it is.
Is every single piece a winner? No, not really.
But let's be honest, I don't think that's true of any retailer.
What I do like is that it still feels like Topshop, it has managed to hold onto his identity.
There are definitely some trend-led pieces that aren't for me, and the collection does lean quite dark at times (which you know isn’t always my fave!) But there are also some brilliant wardrobe staples, lovely knitwear and some really good denim (Topshops denim has always been good to be fair!)
In fact, it's now one of the websites I regularly check when I'm adding new finds to the Curated Wardrobe, especially for trend led accessories.
So if you didn’t even realise that Topshop was back, I'd say it's worth giving it another look. You might not love everything, but there are definitely some gems hiding in there and it’s worth a quick browse especially if it makes you feel all sentimental and reminds you of being young like it does for me.
