Small style tweaks that make a difference
You know those days when you’re wearing perfectly decent clothes, but somehow the outfit just feels… meh?
You don’t necessarily need different clothes. Sometimes you just need to style the clothes you already have a little differently.
Hopefully, one of the things you’ve realised since joining Joyfully Dressed is that it’s not always the big, dramatic changes that make an outfit feel different. Often it’s the really small things that make the biggest difference.
A tuck here, an accessory there, pushing your sleeves up or changing the way you’ve layered something.
These are the sort of things that are really easy to overlook. In fact, you probably wouldn’t even notice them in someone else’s outfit until you know what to look for. And then you start seeing these little styling tricks everywhere.
Here are a few to play around with:
✨ Push your sleeves up. Even just to your forearms. It creates a bit of shape, shows some wrist and can make an outfit feel instantly more relaxed.
✨ Try a half tuck. If it works for your body shape, a simple front tuck can define your waist and stop a top feeling too boxy.
✨ Add a third piece. A denim jacket, blazer, cardigan or open shirt can make a really simple jeans-and-T-shirt outfit feel much more complete.
✨ Change your shoes. The same outfit can feel completely different with trainers, sandals, loafers or ankle boots.
✨ Put the jewellery on. It doesn’t need to be loads. Sometimes a pair of earrings or a necklace is all an outfit needs to feel finished.
✨ Add your happy colour. It could be a colourful top, a scarf, your shoes or even your favourite lipstick. A little colour can completely change how an outfit makes you feel.
✨ Add a bit of lippie. Honestly, this can be enough on its own. A swipe of your favourite lip colour can make you feel more pulled together without changing anything else.
✨ Roll your cuffs. On jeans, chinos or shirt sleeves, that tiny adjustment can make an outfit look much more considered.
But rather than looking at this list and thinking you now need to remember eight different styling tricks, try something much simpler.
Next time an outfit feels a bit ‘meh’, ask yourself: what tiny change could make this feel more like me?
Maybe it needs a little more shape. Maybe it needs some colour. Maybe the shoes are making it feel too casual. Or maybe it doesn’t need anything at all.
If you’ve been in Joyfully Dressed for a while, this is often where the real skill develops. You start noticing the tiny details that make an outfit work, rather than feeling like you need to keep adding more.
And you definitely don’t need to do all of these. Pick one and have a play.
