Valentines Day
When I first started thinking about today’s Joydrop, the plan was to look at Valentine’s-inspired clothes — hearts, red pieces, “nice date” outfits… that kind of thing.
But as I’ve sat down to write this, it just hasn’t felt very Joyfully Dressed.
Because it doesn’t really sit right with me to say:
“Here’s a specific day — now go and buy something new for it.”
That’s never been what JD is about.
So instead of telling you what to buy for Valentine’s Day, I want to make a small pivot and talk about something far more useful: outfits you already own that feel good enough for moments like this.
Because we all know the goal isn’t to dress for just one day in February. It’s to have clothes in your wardrobe that already make you feel confident, comfortable, and like yourself.
So here are some Valentine’s-day outfit ideas you might already have hanging in your wardrobe.
Outfit formula 1:A knit you love + jeans that feel good + a slightly smarter shoe.
This is such an easy formula, and you are likely to have this already in your wardrobe, you don’t even need to change out of what you were wearing in the day, simply swap out your footwear, and throw on some earrings.
For shoes think loafers, boots, or a low heel, something that lifts the outfit without trying too hard. Then just accessorise with a gorgeous pair of over the top earrings that you love! Boom, easy casual date night outfit!
Outfit formula 2: A dress you already enjoy wearing + tights + sexy high heel boots
We all have dressed we already love in our wardrobes, they don’t even have to be necessarily dressy a casual day dress is fine.
Simply add boots, necklace (maybe a belt) or lipstick to make it feel more ‘done’ without changing the outfit.
Outfit formula 3: A simple shirt + jeans + heels
I love wearing a ‘casual’ shirt on a night out, and simply dressing it up, by unbuttoning a few more buttons than normal (I know risqué) tucking it in, and throwing on a pair of heels. I will sometimes even keep the shirt unbuttoned and tuck it across my body, giving it a kinda sexy casual feel. Add a necklace and whallah!
None of these outfits ely on buying something new, and hopefully you can pull them together with items you already have in your wardrobe.
