Is something simple ruining your look?
Last week I mentioned the difference a haircut can make to how you feel, and I loved seeing people booking appointments and sharing their hair refreshes in the group.
This week, we’re thinking about something else, but it’s just as important.
Underwear.
Underwear is one of those quiet, behind-the-scenes things that has a huge impact on how our clothes actually look.
Be honest with yourself when was the last time you bought new underwear or had a proper bra fitting?
Knickers.
Bras.
Support garments that fit your body now.
Tights that aren’t digging in or falling down when you walk.
The way your underwear fits your body makes a massive difference to how clothes sit on top. It sounds obvious when you say it out loud, but it’s one of the easiest things to overlook.
I know this because I did it myself. I kept maternity underwear for far too long after having the kids. Knickers where the elastic had stretched out of shape. Bras I’d grabbed from M&S without even trying on properly.
And to be clear, no one is saying you need to ditch your comfy knickers or bras. We just want your underwear to do the job it’s meant to do: be comfy, undetectable, and give you the structure you want.
It matters even more once you’re more aware of your shape and how you want your clothes to look on your body. If you’re already making changes to how you get dressed, it makes sense to think about what’s underneath too.
We tend to keep underwear for years, long after it’s stopped fitting or supporting us properly.
If your knickers are too tight, they leave marks in your trousers.
If your bra doesn’t support you properly, tops don’t skim the way they’re meant to and everything sits slightly lower than it should.
If tights are pulling or slipping, the whole outfit can feel uncomfortable and just a bit off.
This isn’t about buying fancy underwear or replacing everything at once. It’s about noticing whether the foundation of your outfit is quietly working against you.
If you get a moment this week, have a look in your underwear drawer. Just notice what still fits, what doesn’t, and what’s no longer doing its job.
